Strength in unity...
FirstPlan was created to provide a single, national pension & benefits plan for all First Nations and Aboriginal Government employees and businesses. We believe that this is the only way to have true control over our own benefits and pensions. By having the business owned and controlled by the very people using the products and services we can ensure that full disclosure, full transparency, and total accountability are built right in. We believe the profits generated from the business of delivering employee benefits to First Nations should go back directly to Aboriginal people and their communities.
- First Nations organizations will take total control over the significant financial business assets and elements (currently owned by outside interests) of delivering pension and group benefits (employee benefits) to their own employees.
- First Nations organizations will become active participants in all decisions relating to their own employee benefit plans.
- The plan members and plan owners will be the same people!
- The “economic leakage” resulting from employee benefits business profits (i.e. commissions and fees) leaving our communities will be reversed.
- Unnecessary and expensive duplications of service (resulting from nearly 500 separate “retail” pension plans now placed with First Nations organizations) will be eliminated.
- Aboriginal people will be employed in the hundreds of jobs now being performed by others.
- As First Plan Co-operative gathers collective strength, we will enter into Institutional Pension & Benefits, ensuring even greater benefits to our members at the very lowest cost.
- Our self-owned pension plan can act as a “First Nations Treasury” from which investments can be made in viable First Nations enterprises.
